This article was in the Boston Globe this morning. I thought those from California might be aware of The Red Apple. Great story about small business, baking, apple pies, doughnuts and local produce

I have friends who live in nearby Elk Grove, so I'll make a stop there when i go visit.

The mention of the Arkansas Black apple made me smile: If you find them, do try them! They're both gorgeous and delicious. Their skin is a dark purple, almost black and they've got a nice juicy snap to them.

oh rats, and i'm 3000 miles away!...glad to know that someone is still growing stayman winesaps...i always thought thye were nice cooking apples....and now i have to watch for the arkansas black!...sounds intriguing.....thanks for the link.

I get the Globe as well and tore this recipe out of the G section. Can't wait to try it!
