Most likely it is a worn belt. My Zo would do that every 2-3 years.

where to get the belt fixed? Could we buy the part and do it?

I have a brand new Zo, and it makes a horrible noise. For such an expensive machine to make this kind of noise disgusts me. I've only had it a few short months. I got rid of my first Zo because it didn't brown the top of the loaf and made the sides too dark. I then used another brand, which was very inexpensive. It did a nice job, but I thought I just had to have another Zo, the newer one with the heating element in the lid, thinking it was the best. WRONG! I'm disgusted and frustrated.

Contact the store where you bought it. (There ARE advantage to buying local.) Otherwise, contact Zo support, I found them to be helpful and efficient.

I've never heard a 'quiet' bread machine, but they shouldn't screech. I agree, check with the maker(s).

I have the new ZO machine, I love it. I also noticed a loud strange noise when kneading my bread after a couple of months. I contacted Zojirushi after the noise became very apparent and spoke with a very nice person. I had the phone available, so they listened to the noise while the machine was kneading. They sent me a new pan, and the noise is gone. It had something to do with the shafts of the pan, one of them was not lubricated. Zojirushi has been wonderful with any and all questions I have had and making sure I get resolutions to my problems. I do not know if this would be the problem you are having, but the noise while kneading was mine and was solved. Contact them, they will know what is causing it and solve it for you.
I still love machine and use it over twice a week.
