Been thinking of your birthday for days, KathyD and thought of you the last few weeks with all the new coffees out for fall and cooler weather.

I got a big order off to Gloria Jeans and received it last week and I wondered if you'd ordered some, too. It's been a little too warm for coffees to taste really great here for over a week but we dived right in anyway. The Pumpkin Spice is so wonderful! GJ's grinds my order so perfectly! The prices have gone up so badly...whew!!!

So, I'm sending a big bunch of very best wishes to you as you celebrate your very special day, KathyD...Happy Birthday and many, many happy returns my wonderful friend!

Hoping your fall coffees will be a great joy for you, too!

Thank you all for the birthday wishes. I was surprised with a beautiful box of chocolates from a very special friend...Thank you again for your thoughtfulness....you know who you are!! ;D

Swirth I think of you often and don't get here much but was wondering how Paddy, Sheila and Tom were doing so I popped in the other day. Yesterday I found your thread on links...what a nice surprise. Some of them forgotten and I love perusing them. I have been drinking coffee all summer long. I recently purchased some Green Mountain Pumpkin Spice and some Gloria Jean's Hazelnut. Everytime I pick up a flavored coffee I think of you.

I was so surprised to see this note...thank you all so much for making my day!

KathyD
PS: I'm eating chocolate now thanx to you!:D

Happy Birthday, Kathy.

The great thing about being a baker is, if you don't get a cake, you can always make your own!

frick

Happy Birthday, my dear friend Kathy. I'm wishing you many balloons, ribbons, surprises and cake, of course. Are you baking your own cake? Of course you are! Hugs, frick

I'm late, but I hope you had a simply wonderful Birthday - with cake!

Hi, KathyD. Sorry I missed you big day. Hope it was happy and everything you wished for. Jan

Thanx for all the great Birthday Wishes. The day was just okay. Work gets in the way and by the time I get home I'm too pooped to bake. So I might make DH take me out on Saturday night. As for cake...my hips really don't need it!

So nice to hear from all of you. I think about this gang a lot and I so miss the old BC....guess I better get use to this new BC!

Enjoy your day!
KathyD

Please come back, KathyD. I know you've been missed. Yeah, I miss the OBC, but I'm getting used to the new one and the people here. The best part about the old group was the way everyone shared information and helped with everything, not just baking problems.

Swirth and some of the old group have started the new circle in that direction, so you will find the concept familiar, if not the names. But, the names will become just as familiar over time as they were on the OBC. I've become accustomed to their faces (to paraphrase that old song) and I know you will, too.

Maybe we can arrange a 'Bread Crawl' using some of the newbies. I'll bet they would love learning the ins and outs of bread, cheese and wine in NYC!

omaria

Cindy, please explain to us what a "Bread crawl" is. And come to California to do it. Temecula is a lovely town with many wineries in the region. San Diego is close by, as is Julian (In the mountains east) famous for their apple pies.In Winchester (The smallest hole in the wall you've ever seen)is a cheese farm.

kathyd

Omaria,
A Bread Crawl was something several of us did back about 7 years ago. We had several members who lived in NYC and some of us traveled there for the weekend. We met on Saturday morning and spent the entire day traveling the city. We visited Sullivan Street Bakery, Amy's Breads, Joe's Mozzarella shop. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed some great breads and pastries. We even visited Chelsea Market where the food network now tapes their shows.

It was fun and I would do it again in a heart beat but alas I do not know my way around the city. MrsCindy and her hubby were there along with JenMac and Rich. Karen Noll was suppose to go but something happened and she didn't make it.

Maybe we should try to pull another one together. I know that the bakery people loved having us!!!

I miss this group!

We had SOOOOO much fun!!! We walked almost everywhere and had some of the most incredible breads. We shopped at Chelsea Market and I'm still using some of the little gadgets I got while we were there. Kathy, what was the produce market we went to at the end? I could swear (well, not swear, swear, but you know what I mean) that they filmed a segment of a Food Network show there a little while ago. It looked so familiar.

I would love to do it again, but right now would not be a good time for me. Maybe after the Israel trip, if all goes well with the stem cells, I would be in better condition for a real Bread Crawl! Maybe towards the end of next summer. That way we have plenty of time to set everything up and get a big group of people interested. If we could get 10-15 people, we could rent a van and do it right! Think about it, KathyD, wouldn't it be a blast!!! We could get in a full day of every shop, bakery, market, everything we wanted to do and end the day with a dinner.

Okay, now I'm fired up! Let's think about this

~Cindy

frick

Maria, you are right. We need a bread crawl in Southern California. There surely must be more than two of us.

kathyd

MrsCindy,
I know exactly where you are....I can see us standing there. There was a booth with chili peppers. They had wreaths and ropes of chili peppers. It was a beautiful market. They had booths that sold plants and they also sold food.

We would need to find someone in NYC that knows the area. I know that Sullivan Street Bakery has movied. Amy's is still in the Chelsea market. I could never find those places again without help. Remember the bread sticks at Amy's...Chocolate chip, Cinnamon Raisin and there was another one and I thought it had Fennel in it. YUM!!

I ask my hubby the name of that dang market and he can't remember either....At our age it could take us a week to remember. Next year is our 30th Anniversary and we are planning on getting away in late September for a couple of weeks. Other than that I am open for a Bread Crawl!

Oh it would be fun. Macy and JeJ were also talking about bread crawl last year or the year before.

We will have to put the word out!

Pulling this back up.
