How many jars of pie filling, and do I need a thickener?
I have recently discovered the wonderful world of pie baking and my next quest is a cherry pie. I love Chukar Cherries and would like to try their sour cherry pie filling, but I have two questions. For a nine inch pie dish, should I use one or two (or part of a second) jar? Also, with this pre-made filling, is it necessary to buy a thickener?
I'd love some feedback!

Baker83, Doesn't the jar say if it is enough for a 9 inch pie? I have never used pie filling out of a jar, so don't know how thick it is. You could try sprinkling some dried cherries or cranberries on the bottom and your filling on top. I do that with dried apples and apple pie.

BAKER83:
Good morning. My experience with cherry pie baking is this. Most cans or jars that contain thickened filling (syrup) come in 21,oz containers. I have used them in 8, inch pies along with 8,oz of frozen sour cherries. My strong opinion is this for a 9, inch pie consider at least 8 / 10, oz of frozen cherries first in your pie shell & place the jarred cherries with syrup on top of the frozen cherries. First mix in the sugar & some cornstarch & let defrost in your oversixed bowl. When you get juice from the defrosting mix then place in your pie shell with the juice (Not to much) top it Place it in the re~fridge for an hour...cut slpits in 3 places & bake.
If you require further ideas we are hear to help you.
Good luck & enjoy the rest of the day.
