Husband had latest surgery!

As some of you know of my husbands accident and all the things going on. He had his toe moved up to the thumb. Good thing he has great looking feet and toes. It was done a week ago today. Ten hours in surgery. Not to bother with details but it seems to be a success. He can move it and with all the swelling and no guarantee he would be able to. Everyone is thrilled from the surgeon to family. Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers. Now lots of therapy.
I can see I have issues because I was offended a home health nurse came today. Guess when you get therspists it is included. I will work on my internal attitude. One stinking nurse is enough!

i don't know the details of your hub's accident, but it sounds as if you've both been thru a rough time....hope all goes well from now on for you and for him.

I didn't know of the trials you have been going through. I'm so glad your husband is on the mend and things went well. Good luck with the therapy.

Kathy, you are too funny! ("one stinking nurse is enough") So very glad your husband is doing well and the surgery seems to be such a success. This kind of surgery seems truly miraculous but daughter's FIL does exactly this. Where would we be without our opposable thumbs? Keep your guy away from ladders!

Hope he will still be able to spin you around the dance floor.

Kathy,
I don't know what happened to my earlier reply to your post, but I'll repeat:

Blessings and prayers to you both for a speedy recovery.
GinaG.

P.S. Use the time the "stinking" nurse is there to take a hot bath and read a book. Do something nice for yourself. You need to take care of you, too.

I agree with Gina. Use the time the nurse is there for yourself. You are going to need ME time. Glad you husband is on the mend. Will pray that all continues to go well. bb

Kathy, I somehow missed the details of your husband's accident and recovery. So glad his surgery went well! Prayers for a smooth recovery. And yes, take advantage of the extra nurses and take some time for yourself!

Kathy,

Sending good thoughts your way for hub's recovery (and your sanity as well!).

KathyG,
Sorry but I think I missed your and DH issues with his accident. Glad surgery went well and he is on the mend. I agree with the others. Do something for you when the nurse is there. You need some down time too!

Hugs,
KathyD

Well he developed a contact rash from something in the surgical dressing. Had them removed. His thumb/toe looks beautiful and he has some movement they transplanted two tendons. He is in a boot to walk in but can only do minimal walking, no loss of balance. Exciting to say the least.
As to the other nurse she is only to co-ordinate his home therapy. Not any hands on stuff just to evaluate what we do and give her input. It makes me feel like a new mom and everyone putting their two cents in. The surgeon did not order this the hospital pt did. My husband told them he did not feel he needed her and as she has no experience in this or no contact with our surgeon two hours away it was a waste of insurance money. We go back to our hand therapist next week so we will not need home therapy either. The only PT he may need is learning to run again.

On another note I was upset to here Westminster Dog Show will no longer be affiliated with rescues or the spca they even parted ways with Pedigree and their effort to send money to shelters. When I saw a portion of the show promoting some fashion show with small dogs knowing how some will react and go out to get them and poor breeding habits, sorry Mary Anne not you, makes me mad. The shepherd rescue I work with has called and has a 4 mos old they want me to foster. I want to say no with all going on but how can I. Poor things. I will get Maggie tomorrow. How appropriate, My mom was Maggie and her birthday would have been on Valentine's day. Wish I had know today as I was in Baltimore at the drs office. LOL!
Hope to get my new Hearth pan broken in soon.

Hi Kathy! Lots of positive thinking and prayers coming from here. My sister is a nurse... She cut one of her fingers off at the first joint 'helping' her DH with his boat. The first time I saw it, I was in awe. I think it was after he retired, though she still does a lot of volunteer work in their community. Does fine now and I hope your DH will, too.

Your saying they sent an unnecessary nurse along reminds me of my dad getting care from the county when he was bed-ridden. They sent all kinds of people, a nurse, and especially, a young gal to 'give him a bath.' Mom always gave him his bath before they came, because, as you can imagine, there was no way this young thing was going to be bathing him!! It was totally ridiculous.

Have a good convalescence! And get that new Hearth pan going. Let us all know what you do with it and how it works, please! Also, let us know how the adorable little Maggie is doing. LOL

Hi, Kathy!

I smiled when I read your post. So glad the intrusive feeling you had is behind you.

It really is true that our best blessings and miracles are threaded between our trials and tribulations. It sounds like your mother found a very creative way to let you know she is with you through all of this.

Celebrate by baking something with the hearth pan!

GinaG.

hope the rash clears up or that it isn't itchy...my hub had the same thing happen after surgery, tho he'd never had a problem with adhesive tape or even band-aids before that....he looked like he had poison ivy (itched like that too) ....hope your guy isn't that bad!

Kathy, don't know the details of your hubby's accident but wishing him the best for a speedy return to mobility of both hand and foot!
Do try and make time for you though, a carer needs to look after herself.
