I'm looking forward to trying Harvest Grains Blend
I have a little King Arthur"shopping trip" planned. One of my purchases is going to be Harvest Grains Blend. I'm curious to hear from folks who have tried it. Did you like it - did it give your bread something yummy to bite into?

I love it. Use it in various different breads from WWW to Oatmeal. A really great blend. If you really like a wholesome, healthy, bread, you will love the texture the Harvest Blend gives your bread.

I bought a bag last time I ordered and used it in the 100% whole wheat for bread machines recipe....VERY good.
I like the cracked wheat as well - might be worth trying too :-)

re: your comment, Sandra:) I'm not actually going to the King Arthur Store in Vermont, altho it would make a nice trip - I'm in CT. I'm ordering from the online store.
I'm getting myself a few bread baking treats that I've been wanting for some time.

OK, I'm not quite so jealous! :)
Anyway, I'm in a forgiving mood, I'm going to have a giant slice of chocolate cake later, hehehe! (Well, ok, a small piece, don't want to completely undo my sensible eating plan....)
AND I found a non cooking item that I have been hunting for here, quite by chance. Spray temporary adhesive. Yeah, I know, what an odd thing to want, but I am into machine embroidery and quilting as well as baking! Would you believe, I have been into every hardware store, stationers, paint shop within quite a radius to no avail and where do I eventually stumble upon it? In a garden centre.

Art supply store or art section of Michael's. Or just check out the adhesive aisle in Michael's - there always seems to be a lot of products in that aisle.

Think I may play with mine today if I can warm up my sewing room enough to use it without me turning into an ice cube!
It's not that they don't sell the stuff over here, it's knowing in what kind of store they do sell it. I've been trying to find long nosed applique scissors and can't find any. It will end up with me getting them on ebay soon!

Gosh, Sandra... I use the spray a lot... In fact, it's my favorite way to bat my quilts..... Love it. What brands can you get there? Some are better than others. Elmer's even has one now... Who knew?
God luck!

The one I found is a spanish brand, can't remember the name off hand. Have one coming eventually from the UK which is 3M brand. I've not had chance to use it yet, sewing room has been too cold to sit in!

Cindy, any recipe sources for one of the breads you use this in. I have a bag in the freezer. I wish I had the recipe Mary Anne (dlady) makes. Do you soak your grains first?

Hi, Kathy, long time....... I have a recipe for Irish Oatmeal Bread in my recipes. It really is one of my most requested recipes. No, I don't soak the Harvest Grains Blend, I just add them to the recipe. Usually about 2/3 cup. It can be added to a WW recipe or a WWW recipe. Just decrease the flour amount and check your hydration. It makes a wonderful bread.

I made a loaf of Harvest Grains Blend bread, according to the directions that are on the same page as the full item description - I think they also came with the package.
Since it was my first time with this recipe I added a scant half cup of the Harvest Grains blend. I think the recipe suggests 1/3-2/3 c.
The bread was deelish!

I got some in my recent order and I'm inspired to get in the kitchen and bake with it now. I am also a lucky lady from VA who will be stopping by the retail store in VT next week - I can't wait!

I've made the Harvest Grains Blend bread recipe(on the pkg) a few times now. I've been adding 1 egg to the ingredients. I think it gives a little spring to the loaf - love it!

Chris, I'm one of those people who tend to add an egg to a lot of my bread recipes. I agree with you, it does seem to give it a little spring! I crack the egg into the bottom of the measuring cup then add the liquid called for in the recipe. Ie., if the recipe calls for 1 cup of water, I put the egg in the measuring cup then add water to the 1cup mark. This way I allow for the extra hydration without having to add more flour. Works every time!

Cindy, I think you should put this egg trick on the post PJ has started. A lot of people would benefit from that knowledge. Me among them.LOL.

I think I remember reading that egg is a natural source of lecithin - which is used as a dough enhancer..
