I was wondering how the wheat futures are holding on KAF wheat buying. I assume we'll be looking at increase in wheat costs??I feel bad for the American wheat farmers, and am still very thankful that KAF only buys wheat and grains from US wheat producers....
KAF and the summer drought in the wheat fields

I tried posting a link to a chart for the September 2012 wheat futures contract at the CME, but it didn't come through. A big rise as the summer drought dragged on, from 640 to 860.
The farmers I've talked to are really worried there won't be enough moisture in the ground for the winter wheat crop to sprout this fall.
This article sounds like things are better off than we might expect. The way I think, the wheat was ready for harvest before the many hottest and most dry weeks hit the crop.

I just bought 50#s - I;m covered in case the price goes up - I have a lot of sympathy for all of the farmers this year...NS
50 pounds probably wouldn't get me past Christmas.
At the rate I'm going, me neither! But thankfully I loaded up on both KAF Bread and AP where I found it for not a lot over 2.00 for 5 lb bags, the cheapest I have ever, ever seen it. I use quite a bit of both, I have two starters to feed with each and I do use it for my bread.
Also, I've been advised by sourdough friends on another forum that a really good brand of high gluten flour can be had locally from the Cash & Carry. I about fell over: $19.00 and change for 50# ?!
That's lots better than 6.99 for 3 lb bags of Sir Lancelot, which I love, but boy, do I go through it.
I just received 3 bags last week and I'm already half through the second bag. I hope a price hike doesn't grab us unawares. I can only stock-pile so much of it without suffering insecurities and paranoia over freshness.
