What is the difference between Diastatic Malt Powder and Non-Diastatic?

From what I gather, diastatic malt has enzymes which help the texture, keeping properties and rise of the dough. The non diastatic version is more of a sugar substitute.
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that's the simplified version!

Diastatic malt contains an enzyme called Diastase which helps to convert the starches in flour to sugar which in turn provides food for the yeast. As Sandra says, non-diastatic malt is just a sweet, and acts just like sugar.
