My Favorite Baking Memory

My Favorite Baking Memory
Sung to the theme of “The Beverly Hillbillies”

Please sit down and have a piece of cake.
I’d like to tell you why I’ve always loved to bake.
About once a month my Nannie called us in
The measuring and the stirring were about to begin.

Pound Cake that is, Southern Gold, a favorite for me.

Well, her ingredients were all set out and poured in that old bowl
Every time we laughed and joked the big cake had a hole.
They called us kids a “Wrecking Crew”. And we always knew.
But we jumped in the chairs and she told us what to do.

Tube pans, real butter, Pound Cake.

Well, now I’d like to tell you what I see in my mind’s eye.
I see that silly group again sometimes it makes me cry.
The plain sweet cake is like Nannie used to bake.
And even after fifty years, it’s the favorite to make.

Pound Cake that is. Have some coffee, too. Ya’ll come back, ya’ hear?

I’ve taken a little liberty from a much-loved theme song. What I really want you to know is that the ties that bind might be a piece of cake. Sometimes it’s just a cake and sometimes it’s the reminder of sweet lessons from a loving grandmother.

I think I have moved this to the correct thread now. Thank you for the patience.
