Please pray, it's getting bad.
Sheila is in a really bad way, very weak, will probably have to go into hospital soon. I'll let you know when there's any news.

As always I am praying for you three. Like Tia, Sheila seems similar to the EverReady Bunny. Will pray she can bounce back yet again. Tell her we all are pulling for her. ~Mary Ann

Your prayers work wonders. Sheila seems to be rallying and so far, has not had to go into hospital. She became very dehydrated and I wanted to call an ambulance, but like Mary Ann's sister-in-law, Sheila continues to fight and she fought the idea of an ambulance. We see her oncologist on Monday and I won't be surprised if he decides to keep her in for a day or so, just to rehydrate her and build up her strength. Thank you all for your love and prayers.

Paddy,
That is good news indeed. Perhaps all those get well wishes are having a positive effect on her spirit if nothing else. Hope that the weekend gets better and that the Doc visit on Monday goes well.

Paddy, don't under estimate the power of just plain old water. I have been taking new meds and I sometimes feel like I'm going to pass out or get dizzy and then remember to drink water and within the next half our I feel much, much better. Whatever the reason Sheila is feeling better. it's great news. Keep the fight going.

Paddy, it looks like I might be up in your neck of the woods this weekend to help my little brother move (Longueuil to St. Lambert - he and his fiancé are finally settling down!). Let me know if I can help at all - supplies, a ride to the store, anything.

Sheila is in the hospital. There was no way she could have made it down the stairs and into a taxi, so I phoned oncology and was told to get an ambulance and have her taken to the ER at St. Mary's. We had to wait hours because it wasn't an emergency, but the ambulance finally came, the EMTs were wonderful, and I left her about an hour ago in the ER. She was hooked up to an IV receiving fluids which she desperately needed, and was in good spirits when I left. They may keep her in for a day or two longer, in oncology I hope, not in the ER which was packed with mostly very elderly, very confused ladies and gents who had fallen on the ice, and didn't have a clue where they were or why. It's so sad, seeing these fragile old ladies who have no one to come and stay with them, who live alone, and can't even manage the stairs on their own. However, for the moment, Sheila is getting the treatments she needs, and I'll be going up in the morning to make sure they're looking after her properly.
Thank you all for caring so much, it means a whole lot to both of us, and to Tom. I'll let you know when there's any news.

Am glad that Sheila relented and went to hospital. You can't fool around with dehydration. Hope she is out soon so you don't have to stuff Lily in a really big purse to sneak her in to see Sheila.

Was at the hospital for almost 8 hours today, and Sheila has finally been seen by a couple of oncology doctors. When I left at 6:30 this evening, she was waiting to be moved to a bed in Oncology. We have no idea how long they're planning to keep her in; a lot will depend on whatever care structure they can figure out for when they send her home, and they want to be sure she is strong enough to come home. I think this will mean more active home care than she is currently getting, eg., more nursing, as this crisis of dehydration shouldn't have got as bad as it did. I also talked to her nurse in the hospital (they're called pivot nurses)and she assured me that I had done the right thing in calling the ambulance. Knowing Sheila as well as I do, I doubt she'll put up with hospitalization for long; she'll fight to get out! More power to her, I say. She did manage to eat a little of the supper they brought - cold mac and cheese - and they're still pumping in the fluids. Her blood tests were normal, as were her electrolytes, but she's slightly anemic and has a low-grade fever which usually means an infection somewhere. This will have to be treated before they'll let her go. They also have to work out a lower dose of the chemo she's been taking. I'll let you know tomorrow, after I've seen her again. She's very grateful, as am I, for all of your prayers and good wishes.

And don't forget to eat and have a cuppa while at the hospital. You are in an environment with more "germs" so keep up your resistance. Wash your hands at every turn.
