pumpkin pie explosion

This year I made pumpkin pies from scratch. The first time I'd made it with a baked baby bear pumpkin and it turned out perfectly! I was really happy considering I was a first timer. I went in for the second time pumpkin pie and the shell was so hard that I couldnt cut it open. I was worried that it wouldnt bake properly but the lady I lived with said it should be fine. So I proceeded. About half an hour later I heard an explosion in the oven! Low and behold the pumpkin I couldn't cut open split right in half and the pumpkin innards were all over! But being a hopeful baker, determined not to loose my pumpkin pie I scraped and salvaged and to my glee, I still got a great pie out of it. And since the shells were so hard I scraped them clean and turned them into cereal bowls. My sister reminds me of my kitchen escapades all the time.
