She's home!
Still a little wobbly, but the scan didn't show anything untowards so I went up and brought her home this morning. A million thanks for all the prayers and good wishes and positive thoughts! Sheila sends her love and gratitude and hopes, one day, to be able to come on here herself to tell you all just how much she loves you.

So glad to hear the news that Sheila's home, Paddy! And that the scan was good. Just making sure she keeps drinking her water :-)
By the way, I'm getting ready to mix a half batch of your buttermilk starter. If you were in Ireland, what flour would you use?

I'd use what they call 'strong' flour.

As Toto would say,"There's no place like home".
Fix a cuppa, sit in a comfy chair and breathe a big sigh of relief . . .

Sheila is doing really well, eating small meals or snacks throughout the day, and drinking lots of fluids. She seems to be getting stronger. I'll let you all know what the oncologist has to say tomorrow.

Great news, Paddy! I hope today brings more good news.
Just make sure she keeps drinking her fluids, even when she thinks she's had enough.

That is huge, Paddy. We don't realize how hard it is to eat when you are so dry. Nothing appeals to Tia and everything sticks to her teeth. We all keep telling her to drink, eat popsicles etc but nothing appeals. Praying for a good result for Sheila today.

Great news!! You know we are all praying for more great news today at the oncologists office. Give our love and hugs to Sheila and keep a few to the side for yourself. You deserve so much of the credit for everything you have done for your beloved sister. You are her 'ace in the hole'!
We are holding on to her right hand as she goes into the doctor's office today. Don't believe it? Just look at the flour on her hand!

We had a terrifying trip up to the hospital this morning - freezing rain and slippery roads - but we made it and saw the doctor. He wants Sheila to have yet another scan, and has given her a reduced dosage on the chemo pills, along with prescriptions for painkillers and Magic Mouthwash. The latter should help with the chemo sores in her mouth. She also uses a spray to help lubricate her mouth, as the chemo tends to suck out all her saliva, making eating a real chore. It was so slippery out, on the front stairs and walk, that Sheila was very shaky and had to have help from me and the taxi driver to get to the car, and when we got to the hospital, I had to push her around in a wheelchair. That's one good thing, I really get to push her around then!

I'm glad to see you haven't lost your sense of humor through all of this, Paddy!
Despite your harrowing trip, it's good to know you are all safe and sound at home again. And, good news about the reduced levels of chemo meds.
Continuing positive thoughts and prayers coming your way.

I am also glad you are home safe and sound. I hope that mouthwash will help heal her sores. It must be so difficult to eat and drink . My love to you and Sheila.

Keep smiling, Paddy, it makes people wonder what you've been up to! 😃 Pushing her around! Does Sheila know you said that?

Paddy, I haven't had much time to post lately, but I have been following this thread. So glad Sheila has been doing a bit better. Hope that continues. Prayers for all three of you coming your way. Making your buttermilk sourdough bread tomorrow, one www and one cinnamon. Hope you can smell it all the way from here!

Paddy, How is your nephew holding up?
Remember the crystalized ginger from Penzeys? If you have a health food store maybe they can let you buy screw pieces of unsulfered ginger. It works wonders for mouth sores in some people. Magic mouthwash is a good thing to have. You can steep it in tea or chew it. (the ginger)
