Winter Wonderland

Officially, we have about 12 inches of snow since midnight here in Lincoln NE. Our snow gauge shows 15 inches.

I don't think we'll be having a picnic on the patio any time soon:

Oh my goodness, Mike! I've been thinking of you guys out that way but had not heard anything for certain. I thot kathyfromkansas was getting hit hard...do you know what they are getting for totals?

Keep safe amd warm and dream of better days, =)!

Better you than me bud. I don't miss it and even though it hurts the snow business here in Mn, I am loving this kinder, gentler, March-like winter. I am sure we will get at least one good dumping in the next month or two but at least it will melt quickly as the season progresses. My cardinals have been singing their mating calls for the last two weeks, so Spring can't be far behind. :-)
Stay safe!

I am so sorry, Mike. I think I feel your pain. We have been told that we will get rain from this storm and not snow. I hope the weatherman is correct. Will be thinking of you and hoping you have someone to do the shoveling for you. bb

It doesn't look like Kansas got hit as bad as western Nebraska. I saw one report that said it may not stop snowing in Omaha until some time Sunday, and it seems to be picking up a bit here, too, but it's a finer snow now as opposed to the heavy wet snow we got overnight.

Looking at the photo brought me back to the blizzard we had here in New Jersey 64 years ago. My son was born on Jan.7th and it had finally stopped snowing since Christmas eve, when the weather folks said possible snow flurries. Those "flurries" went on and off until aound Jan 4th. There was so much snow that I had to go to the hospital in the volounteer fireman's car, ours was totally buried, but the roads had been reasonably cleared. What memories that picture evoked!!! Stay warm with a nice hot chocolate and maybe some home baked cookies as you gaze out the window.

Thank you, Lord, for putting me in Texas! I cannot imagine living in that kind of weather, snow, ice, cold! I get chills just thinking about it.

Do your best to stay warm, all of you members up north! My warm Texas thoughts are blanketing you right now!

sorry that you're getting slammed....we've been lucky so far this winter, and that's fine by me!....and i agree that no picnic is worth having to shovel the patio!

At least we didn't lose power here. My sister-in-law, who lives in another part of town, lost power at around 11 AM Saturday and as of 10 AM Sunday it still wasn't back on.

The heavy snow was preceded by rain that turned into freezing rain, so the trees were just COVERED with snow. There are lots of trees and limbs down around town, and they took down a lot of power lines. We have buried utilities in this neighborhood, the lights blinked a couple of times, but that's it.

Wow, Mike, looks like you have real baking weather. How long will it be before you can grill again, months?

Mike Nolan

Hard to say, the temperature for the next week or so is for highs in the 30's, it'll take more than that to melt all that snow off the patio, which is on the north side of the house. If we get more snow, it could be March before the patio is clear. We used the grill for turkeys on both Thanksgiving and Christmas day, though, so I really can't complain.

There's a mountain of snow at the top of the driveway that dwarfs my son's Honda CRV.

They're saying this may be the 2nd biggest one day snowfall in Lincoln.

What a difference 100 miles makes! That storm was just enough north of us that we only got about an inch or two and it was almost gone the next day. Crazy weather this winter. Last week we were running around in tee shirts in 65-70 degree weather. Sorry Mike...hope you get unburied soon.

Wowsers, kathy. Only an inch or so, almost bathing suit weather. We've missed you.

And the odd part is that we're on the south end of Lincoln, and we got more snow here (by several inches) than they got in north Lincoln. Officially it measured 11.1 inches at the airport, we had more like 16 inches here.

We had 70 degree weather a week earlier, too. But today it never hit 30 and we had flurries around mid-day, though I don't think it added up to much. (At least we seem to have dodged the sleet.)

A nice slow melt would be fine with me, we can use the moisture in the ground.

This sounds similar to what we experienced here in Ohio last year. Hilliard/Columbus area was hit hard and Cleveland [usually gets it due to the lake effect], got nada.

This year, we've only had one day where snow stayed on the ground for an entire day/night. Just heard though that we're suppose to be getting a storm front either tonight or tomorrow and possibly snow. We'll see.

Stay safe and warm in the meantime.
